Welcome to Dill Class!

Dill Class is a lively and engaging learning environment where pupils work together as a group, supported through differentiated approaches that promote independence and active participation. The development and understanding of spoken language are nurtured through a Total Communication approach, which includes the use of symbols, aided language displays, commenting boards, and makaton.

Each half term, we explore an overarching topic that provides a meaningful context for our themed activities. Our learners particularly enjoy themed days and WOW events, which bring the curriculum to life and deepen their understanding of key concepts. These events may focus on specific curriculum areas or link to the broader theme of the term.

Curriculum objectives are embedded within our daily activities, with opportunities to target individual goals in a purposeful and relevant way. Literacy and Numeracy underpin all areas of learning, and we actively seek opportunities to apply and extend these essential skills across the curriculum.

Our learning environment is designed to be calm and supportive, with distraction-free zones and a range of equipment to help learners self-regulate their sensory needs. This ensures full access to the curriculum throughout the day and promotes emotional well-being. We also follow the Zones of Regulation programme to help pupils understand and manage their emotions effectively.

Independence is encouraged in all aspects of self-help and daily routines. We aim to create a setting where communication, social interaction, and relationships flourish, helping our learners build confidence and essential life skills.
