Work Experience
At Selworthy School, our structured work experience programme supports learners to develop confidence, independence and employability skills through three progressive stages.
Stage 1: Internal Work Experience
Learners begin by developing foundational workplace skills within the school environment. Through structured, supported tasks, they build confidence, responsibility, routine and positive work behaviours.
Stage 2: Internal and External Work Experience (with Job Coach Support)
Learners extend their experience beyond the classroom, accessing roles across the wider school and Trust. With support from familiar staff, they experience new environments while continuing to build independence, communication and practical work skills.
Stage 3: External Work Experience (with Job Coach Support)
Learners move into meaningful, community-based placements with local employers. Supported by a job coach, they develop real-world employability skills and gain valuable experience linked to their future aspirations.
Through this graduated approach, learners are supported every step of the way to prepare for adulthood and the world of work.
