Selworthy Futures Week 2025: WOW Event Bringing Futures to Life!

As part of Futures Week 2025, Hazelbrook Campus hosted a WOW Event, bringing together students, parents, carers and alumni for a celebration of careers, aspirations, and vocational opportunities. This engaging event provided learners with interactive activities, inspiring alumni talks, and hands-on vocational experiences, helping them explore their paths beyond education.

Inspiring Alumni Stories

One of the standout moments of the afternoon was hearing from past Selworthy students, who returned to share their career journeys and experiences after leaving school. Their stories provided valuable insights into life beyond education, offering encouragement and inspiration to current learners. Parents and students alike were motivated by the diverse career paths taken by alumni, reinforcing the importance of building skills and confidence for the future.

Interactive Activities for Everyone

The event featured a range of fun and thought-provoking activities, designed to spark conversation and reflection on careers:

  • Top Trumps of Parents’ Jobs – A creative way for students to learn about different career roles based on skills and expertise.
  • Parents’ Career Dreams vs. Reality – Exploring the journey from childhood aspirations to actual career paths.
  • Job Card Puzzles – A hands-on way to match job titles with skills and industries.

These activities encouraged open discussions about employment and career progression, helping students visualise their own future opportunities.

Vocational Stalls: Hands-On Career Exploration

Learners had the chance to visit vocational stalls, where they engaged in practical challenges and career-based learning experiences. Highlights included:

  • Sports, Leisure & Tourism Stall – Testing flexibility, grip strength, and jumping distance to explore careers in sports and fitness.
  • Hospitality & Catering Stall – Challenging students to recognise brand logos and reflect on the dishes cooked throughout the year.
  • Employability & Social Development Stall – Providing insights into personal growth, teamwork, and essential workplace skills.
  • Land-Based Careers Stall – Exploring opportunities in agriculture, conservation, and environmental management.
  • Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Stall – Encouraging outdoor education, resilience, and adventure as part of career development.
  • Selworthy Gifts Enterprise Stall – Showcasing creative business ideas, giving students a taste of entrepreneurship and enterprise.

An Event to Remember!

The WOW Event was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore career options, connect with professionals, and gain hands-on experience in vocational fields. Parents played a vital role in sharing their career experiences, making the event a true community learning experience.

Selworthy School continues its commitment to preparing learners for life beyond education, ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in the workplace.
